12 Tips to Help You Drink More Water

I have previously written "7 Tips to Stop Eating Before You Feel "Stuffed" ", ‘’10 Tips for Reducing Fat in Your Diet” and that the “Power of One” was a must have diet book . Here is another diet strategy from the book. Drink lots of water.

While this might fall into the "duh" category, it shouldn't be taken lightly. Your body needs a lot of water in the course of the day to function properly. Drinking a lot of sugar-sweetend drinks will not only can add to your waistline, but doesn't provide the water that your body needs. In some cases sodium added to the drinks make negate any water that is contained in the drink. Here are some tips to help you drink more water.

  • Remember that water by itself doesn't contain any calories of fat!
  • Substitute water or diet drinks for those high calorie sugar-sweetened drinks.
  • Have a glass of water with your meal.
  • Keep a bottle of water handy at work and make it a goal to finish it in within a certain period of time (i.e. before or after lunch).
  • Take a bottle of water with you on your walks
  • When the temperature is hot or you're exercising remember to drink before you're thirsty, when thirst has set in that means that your body is starting to dehydrate
  • Exercise, your body will need to replenish water lost to sweat.
  • If you're going to have that glass of wine or bottle of beer, drink some water first
  • When you're thirsty, drink water first and then something else if desired.
  • Add lemon or lime (slices or a little juice) to add some flavor.
  • Add ice cubes to your water, this helps to burn calories when your body brings the water temperature up.
  • Remember that the more water you drink, the less room your body will have to be "hungry" and to stuff food into!
One word of caution. You'll want to keep an eye on how much water you're drinking and if your body is excessively thirsty. Excessive thirst can be a symptom of a variety of health issues including diabeties. By drinking more water, you're helping to make your body healthier and you'll help with your diet efforts.
